Kalmyk State University Welcomes First Batch of Indian MBBS Students Amid Global Buddhist Forum Preparations

Kalmyk State University marked a significant milestone this week by admitting its first cohort of Indian students to its MBBS programme, underscoring Russia’s growing role as a hub for international medical education.

The students were officially received by Rector Salaev Badma Katinovich, who assured full institutional support for their academic and cultural integration. Dr. Vijay Vishnoi, Indian Student Representative at the University, joined the interaction, highlighting the importance of nurturing long-term academic and cultural ties between India and Russia.

The development comes at a time when Kalmykia is preparing to host the International Buddhist Forum (25–28 September 2025), which will convene global spiritual leaders, scholars, and delegates—including from India—to deliberate on Buddhism’s role in fostering peace, dialogue, and intercultural harmony.

For the Indian students, the timing of their arrival offers a unique opportunity: to combine rigorous medical training with exposure to a broader cultural and spiritual exchange. Education consultancy Rus Education, which facilitated the admissions, described the move as “a first step towards global opportunities in medicine for Indian students.”

With this initiative, Kalmyk State University strengthens its position on the international academic map, while India-Russia educational collaboration gains a new dimension rooted in both professional and cultural engagement.
